GATTO BLACK
HARDCORE FOR CAT PEOPLE / BUFFALO, NY
Gatto Black, a new voice in melodic hardcore from Buffalo, NY, returns with “You Can’t Make Me Dance”: an anthem of defiance in the search for personal truth.
Lyrically, new single “You Can’t Make Me Dance” confronts the weight of growing up queer and Catholic. The pain and confusion of trying to reconcile that your true self, in the eyes of the Church, is a one-way-ticket to eternal suffering. And the catharsis that comes with being brave enough to shed the guilt and shame that was thrust upon you and step out of the closet and into the light. Inspired by singer / songwriter Sal Mastrocola’s childhood as a bisexual Irish Italian Catholic kid growing up in the Bronx, New York.
This track is the first single from Gatto Black’s forthcoming full length album, “Sky Is Blue” due out later this year. Produced by Gary Cioni (Hot Mulligan, Crime in Stereo) and Michael Hansen (Pentimento, Hotel Etiquette). Recorded, mixed, and mastered by Gary Cioni at Sound Acres in New Jersey. Song by Sal Mastrocola. Artwork by Joey Goergen.
